Pikorua (double and triple twist) represents the lasting connection between cultures, rather than individuals. Traditionally, these Māori pendants symbolize the bond of friendship exchanged between diverse tribes.
Māori twist symbols are associated with the concept of the 'three baskets of knowledge', which explains the origin of essential knowledge needed for human survival. Legend has it that the god Tane, creator of the first man Tiki, descended from the heavens with these three sacred baskets.
